The Wood River

Wood River Ranch Outfitters is offering a select few fishing dates on one the most renowned and private freestone rivers in all the West. The Wood River is home to one of the most genetically pure Yellowstone Cutthroat in the region. The river is managed by natural reproduction as a wild fishery. We have exclusive fishing opportunities on 10 miles of the Wood River and carefully manage these rare waters. Our Guides implement strict catch and release techniques, and we rest sections between guests’ trips to ensure the quality remains unmatched on the Wood River.

The South Fork

The South Fork drops into the Wood River a mile from the Lodge and runs up the valley gaining elevation. As the river meanders up it pools out into a fun pocket fishery filled with hungry Cutthroat. We access these waters on horseback under a special permit and ride up around 3 miles with your guide and Wrangler. You fish down hopping boulders and wading through the canyon to a waiting shore lunch on the river where you can fish a bit more or ride back to the lodge.

Hawks Pond

The Hawks Pond sits right out your room’s doorstep with a casting dock and is stocked full of West Yellowstone Cutthroat. The Hawks Pond is ideal for the novice angler to learn fly fishing for the first time from one of our guides. If you are a seasoned angler grab a fly rod after dinner and work on your technique. These fish are a bit finnicky so you may want to bring your box of flies!

Loveland Lake

The Loveland Lake sits up in a granite rimmed basin on the Ranch and is accessible by UTV vehicle from the Lodge. The lake is also heavily stocked with West Yellowstone trout and there are some 20” and bigger fish to target.

The Bighorn River

We offer full day and ½ day trips departing from the Lodge after breakfast. You can spend the whole day on the river or a half day. This is a river float trip with a seasoned guide.

Can Am Defender Tours

The Wood River Valley has a rich history to share and there’s no better way to share it than to see it. If your arms get tired from all the catching you can book a guided tour of the old mining town of Kirwin. We leave the Ranch in new Can Am 4×4 UTVs and run the 11 miles of rugged dirt roads up to the old mining town.

Leaving the Ranch, the Wood River Valley quickly narrows into shear granite cliffs falling to the valley floor. The trip to Kirwin climbs 2800’ up rugged roads and river crossings and dead ends in the town. You can walk thru the whole town and enter most the old buildings. Trip last 2-3 hrs.

Participate In Wyomings Cutt-Slam
